Non-Binary Pride Flag
The non-binary flag was created by Kye Rowan, then aged 17, in February 2014. Rowan designed it so that non-binary people, whose gender doesn't fit neatly into man or woman, would have a flag of their own rather than relying on the genderqueer flag. It has four equal horizontal stripes. Yellow represents people whose gender exists outside the binary, white people with many or all genders, purple people whose gender is a mix of male and female, and black agender people. The flag is flown on International Non-Binary People's Day (14 July) and during Non-Binary Awareness Week, and it's a common sight at Pride events across the UK. It's one of the most widely stocked identity flags after the rainbow and transgender flags.
What the colours mean
| Yellow | People whose gender exists outside the binary | |
|---|---|---|
| White | People with many or all genders | |
| Purple | People whose gender is a mix of, or between, male and female | |
| Black | Agender people |
The colour bar above shows the flag's palette, not a drawing of it: chevrons, circles and symbols aren't shown. Meanings are as commonly given by the flag's designer or community, and some flags have more than one accepted reading.
